Restaurants and Bars

Tamas Lounge
Located right in the heart of Thamel, it offers wide open outdoor lounge area and indoor lounge areas with private patios situated inside double storage Rana era Victorian style bungalow.
The food menu includes Superior Continental Cuisine and variety of Tapas (snacks) including hints of Chinese and Thai delights. It also offers wide array of cocktails and wine selection prepared and picked out by one of the best and the finest.
The Live Classical/Fusion music by Tabla Maestro Pritam Rai and his ensemble and DJ sessions by in-house DJ Saakar along with the great food and wine selection, the friendly and humble staff will go lengths and breadths to make it a lovely experience for you or the whole family while here at Tamas Spa Lounge or An Oasis in the heart of Thamel, as they like to call it.

Tantra Restaurant and Bar
Tantra Bar is the flamboyantly bizarre bar. The hedonists seeking carnal pleasures in the ancient and muddy ambience of Kathmandu find their way inside the Tantra realm and never leave the realm which brings together the Power of Union and Love - the true meaning of Tantra.
If cigars won't do for you and a more eastern flavor is what you crave, then Tantra's hookas, imported straight from Bahrain and available in different flavors, could lend you a little exotic east cache. The Axis band plays live on Fridays and Tantra also hosts some of the best DJs in the Valley, making it easily one of the most popular places for the young set.

Reggae Bar
Reggae Bar is a favorite of almost every traveler because it caters to any and every mood. The first floor offers a nice bar/club atmosphere with a dance floor, but the main attraction is the grandiose rooftop terrace that features a live band everyday and also one of the best views of the busy Thamel Street 4 stories below.
The Factory
The complex menu has everything from local delights to international treats. The bar is extensive, and offers most domestic and imported liquor. The staff is both friendly and competent, always going out their way to make customers feel attended to. The Factory is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and holds special occasions such as 'Ladies Night' on Wednesday nights. They also have a reliable Wi-Fi connection at an exceptional speed. Make sure to visit The Factory when you are strolling along the alleyways of Thamel.

Ying yang restaurant
It is Thamel's most highly regarded restaurants. It serves authentic Thai food cooked by a Thai chef in either garden or floor seating. It's not cheap but the food is a definite cut above the imitation Thai food found elsewhere. The green curry is authentically spicy - the massaman curry (with onion, peanut and potato) is sweeter. There's a good range of vegetable choices.

Himalayan Java
Himalayan Java is a cafe that has become a favorite rendezvous for both foreigners and locals to meet and relax. It serves wonderful pizza and some of the best (if not the only) paninis available in Nepal. You get over 60 varieties of Nepali and international specialty coffee served here, special wood fired pizza and other dishes prepared by renounced chefs and wireless broadband internet connection on site.

Kilroy’s restaurant
Kilroy's of Kathmandu opened on the 15th November 1998 amid a blaze of hype and, according to Footprints guide to Nepal "it was entirely justified".
With seating for 300 guests, Kilroy's is a great dining experience, whether the occasion is an intimate evening for two or a large party of tourists to celebrate their arrival in the majestic Himalayas.
Thomas has carefully put together The Menu taking into consideration all the different cultures that converge on Kathmandu throughout the year. A variety of dishes ranging from light salads and soups, to hearty modern British, Irish and European Dishes are featured, as well as a full range of Indian cuisine that is prepared in the separate Tandoori Kitchen. Here, guests are encouraged to come and try their hand at making Naan bread in the fire-hot clay ovens.
Also not to be missed is The Dessert Menu. As Thomas has prepared desserts for some of the most famous people in the world - from Bill Clinton to Sir Edmund Hillary - here is your chance to taste the favourite choices of the great and the good.
