Lhasa to Kathmandu, trans-himalayan bus service to resume

The trans-Himalayan bus service from Lhasa, capital of the Chinese-occupied Tibet to Nepal which had been the easiest means of transportation for Nepal and Tibet was suspended due to political fallout over issuance of Tibetan visas. After a halt of 4 years, China government is getting ready to resume the service. The service was started on May 1, 2005. According to the “a two-day meeting” between the officials of Nepal Tourism Board and Tibet Tourism Administration held months ago, the service will resume in the next few days. Though a February-end deadline has been fixed, much will hinge upon the snows that block Himalayan passes leading up the Tibetan Plateau from Nepal. In the past, deadlines have been set for resumption of services but were not met. Nepal participated in Italy tourism fair

Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) along with the Nepali private sector participated in the 30th Borsa Internazionale del Tourismo (BIT) organized at Rho Fieromilano Trade Fair Complex, Milan, Italy on February 18-21. The four day fair was divided into two 2-day sections. First two days of the fair were devoted to buyers from all around the world while the last two days were open for people. A total of 130 countries showcased their tourism products and services. This year, turnout overwhelmingly exceeded the 150,000-plus figure.  BIT, one in the top four tourism fairs in the world, has this year become an ideal platform for new ideas, new market segments and niches for operators. Nepal expects 2 lakh Indian tourists

Nepal being hopeful awaits to welcome at least two lakh Indian tourists through the campaign “Nepal Tourism Year 2011”.  Public Relations and Publicity Department, Director of Nepal Tourism Board, Mr. Aditya Baral said, “Earlier, Jet Airways, was limited to Delhi-Kathmandu flight but now it has started operations from Mumbai to Nepal. Apart from that Kingfisher has also started flights to Nepal and Spicejet has keen interest to start its services in the same sector.” According to NTB statistics, there is an annual flow of around one lakh Indian tourists in Nepal. This campaign is expecting the increase in arrival by double. Nepal participates at Vakantiebeurs Holiday Fair 2010

Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) along with 6 travel trade companies participated in the Vakantiebeurs Holiday Fair 2010 held at Utrecht in the Netherlands from 12-17 January, 2010. The Vakantiebeurs Holiday Fair 2010 is the largest consumer travel fair and the world’s largest trade event in the Benelux region. The main theme of the Holiday Fair 2010 was “Meet the locals” where the visitors had opportunities to meet with exhibitors and have first hand information. According to an estimate, between 120,000-130,000 travel enthusiasts visited the fair of which 13,058 were trade visitors. The first day was exclusively reserved for the trade people. During the fair, NTB organised a multimedia presentation for the visitors regarding overall Nepal’s tourism products and Nepal Tourism Fair.
